Birthday of Jacob Milch, Writer & Political Activist
Jacob Milch was born Yankev Zoyermilkh in Warsaw on December 4, 1866. He was an exceptional student, but at 12, after his father’s death, left school to became an apprentice to a wood carver. Three years later, he joined a group of young progressive thinkers. After his Russian army service, he came to the U.S., where he became a labor movement activist and leader in the Socialist Labor Party. Milch was a very popular writer, appearing in the major Socialist dailies and literary magazines. He died in New York on August 18, 1945.
